CBGS was started in 1982 and is now the premier golf society in the region. Created through the merger of two golf societies some 20 years ago and very nearly disbanded in the mid noughties. As former Captain and Vice President Michael Frape will attest “in 2008 we had eight players turn out for a golf day at Felixstowe Ferry and we wondered if the time had come…….”.

Fortunately for all our current members, fast forward a couple of years and with Michael now at the reins, ably assisted by former Captain Martin Guildford, most of Michael’s extensive business network had been persuaded to join and over the next few years CBGS has grown to nearly 120 members, playing 12 courses annually and raising tens of thousands of pounds for charity.

Despite Covid lockdowns ruling out a year of events, the Society managed to retain the majority of members and now plays 10 Order of Merit events and a few other social competitions annually, with membership levels more or less unchanged. Indeed there is currently a waiting list.

We still maintain our four objectives; Play Great Golf Courses, Do Lots of Business, Have Fun and Raise an awful lot of Money for Charity.

This last objective has featured very significantly over the past few years since Rich Blount helped by Stephen Gray launched the Charity Dinner which in its own right now raises in excess of £10,000 every year for the Captain’s Charity.
