The stunning yet demanding course of Northampton County was the venue for our 4th CBGS Order of Merit event of the season.

Ranked in the UK’s top 100 courses, it is also an Open Qualifier course. The challenging approaches and beautiful scenery blended together to make for a superb day’s golf.

For the fourth successive event we were largely blessed with the weather except from a light shower late in the day.

A huge thanks to the 40 members and 11 guests who attended the day and helped cement Northampton County as an OOM venue for years to come. We were treated to wonderful hospitality and superb food by the club, and they really couldn’t do enough for us throughout the day.

The scores reflected the tough course conditions on the day, ranging from 15 – 38 points across both members and guests, with our lowest average to date across all players of 27.47.

A big thanks to Peter Wilson and Jonathan Derbyshire from Coutts for sponsoring the day and providing some fantastic prizes for the winners, including bottles of gin!

Congratulations to Dan Webster for winning the day on 38 points and taking home the Anthony Barnes shield and Coutts trophy. Congratulations also to Team Vice who won the day on 111 points. A special mention also to George Ralph, past member, who won the individual guest prize with 34 points and to Andrew Coury, Dan Webster, and Paul French for winning the skills prizes.

With a combination of £10 raised on each ticket, Coutts’ sponsorship, £140 in fines and 2 reserve list donations, we raised just over £1,000 on the day for Action Medical Research – so thank you very much for your support.

The events continue to come thick and fast with John O’Gaunt next on the schedule on 12th June. This is quickly followed by Saffron Walden on 3rd July and Hunstanton on 16th July. There is availability on all three of these events, so please do get booked if you intend to play. With Hunstanton the 7th event of the season on the horizon please do bear in mind the requirement for all members to play in at least 3 OOM events throughout the season to be guaranteed your membership next year.

In addition to the above, we also have Chris Carey’s tour to Cork on 21st – 24th June which I know the 24 members who are signed up to go are very much looking forward to.

Lastly, a big thanks to Karl Gjertsen (Competition Golf) for ensuring the day runs so smoothly and for my vice Kari for your continued support.

I look forward to seeing you at your next event.

Steve
